The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is a Public Service Commission for states and unions under the Articles 315 to 323 of constitution of India. Before independence Union Public Service Commission was Federal Public Service Commission and after that UPSC is given the status of constitution.
It consists of a chairman and ten members, who work under the regulations, 1969 under the UPSC. The President of India appoints the chairman and members of the Union Public Service Commission. The members of the UPSC must be Civil Servants with ten years experience minimum or retired employee. The UPSC is run by supporting staff headed by Deputy Secretaries, Additional Secretaries and Joint Secretaries.
The UPSC conducts central authority entrances and direct recruitments for various posts.
